evaluation

Evaluation

In this essay I will be evaluating my strengths and weakness about my task which includes my research skills, journalistic skill, the InDesign, web publishing skills and audience feedback.
Firstly I researched into the music industry about piracy and how it affected the artist, record label and the people who are associated with it. From my experience I found it easy to find facts and statics. There was a lot of articles and the effect of music piracy so it gave me a variety of option. It seemed that most articles were against illegal downloading and most articles had really great gigantic numbers of negatives about illegal music downloading and how badly it affects the economy on the other hand the article that was for the piracy had facts that made it seem like it didn’t affect the artist at all. Overall I could not trust any of the facts as I was not sure if it was true or not. My weakness was finding a suitable website to reliable on for some truthful facts and views.
My strengths of the journalistic piece of writing was that I had a lot of time to think about its layout and from my research I had a lot of valid points, which were very useful. Sites like Wikipedia and others had a lot of background information and interesting facts which helped me set out this piece of writing however the facts and were used are not quite 100% true and I feel that I could still build on my opinions.
The indesign software was similar to programs I have used in the past. The tool bars and what they do were explained to me before I used it which made it okay to use. The negatives are that it did not let me design how I wanted my final product. I think it did not allow me to use ease and freedom. I felt there was a lot of restriction, which held me back from what I wanted to create. One major problem was that I could not highlight my article like in word as I am used to. There was just no option for it.

For me to publish this I had to create a google blogger account and post it there. The blog was great as it makes it accessible to anyone with an internet connection. I even had views from the United States and I don’t even know how. But setting up Google blogger was time consuming but at least it cancel out the risks of losing my work because I will always have a backup copy on the blogger.

music piracy article

I got 99 problems and music piracy is one. It says up to 800,000 jobs in the creative industries, out of 1.8 million in total, are threatened. Record labels have been blaming the fall of their profits on illegal distribution of music. Nearly 75 percent of college students have downloaded music from the Internet. So how does this affect the music industry? Piracy was always an issue before file sharing program ever existed like Napster and LimeWire. There were piracy but it required a high level of technical expertise much of the time. So it did not have much a big impact as digital piracy.

However In June 1999, Napster was released as an unstructured centralized peer-to-peer system. Gnutella, eDonkey2000, and Freenet were released in 2000, as MP3.com and Napster were facing charges. Gnutella, released in March, was the first reorganised file sharing network. In July 2001, Napster was sued by several recording companies and lost in A&M Records, Inc. v. Napster. Shortly after napster were shut down.
More file sharing websites were introduced shortly after it making a massive impact as users did not need much skill level or know how to download music. Music sales have globally dropped from approximately $38 billion in 1999 to $32 billion in 2003. The RIAA, a powerful lobby for the recording industry, is responsible for carrying out most of the lawsuits against music piracy in the United States. Some claim that the enforcement against music piracy, which may cost copyright violators up to $150,000 per infringement. Around 3.6 million Australians illegally burnt a music CD in the 6 month period prior to the research. All kinds of backgrounds are not being paid for the professional work they have done. The loss to the economy has significant impact, including more than 111,000 jobs lost, $5. 67% of all the music downloaded is actually saved and listened to illegally. But however you look at it is like stealing something without permission.
However some may argue that by illegally downloading music you are actually giving the artist more fame it is not very different to burning cd. 70% of online users say they find nothing wrong with online piracy, and 63% of users admit to doing some illegal downloading. Most people say that they would not actually pay for the music initially if it was not free. Most people feel that artist make enough money already and if you are a true fan you would actually buy it. Artist also make money by doing tours and selling shirts and merchandise.
