Dr Dre is in large font which also symbolism his importance even though he is in the back ground. By him being in the background it reflects his work which is producing beats and working behind the scene. Dr Dre who is a well know artist/producer, who is well respected is backing Kendrick Lamar. This just goes to shows Kendrick Lamar’s potential. This magazine does have a lot of white space as the background of the magazine is white. By using white space it makes it seem that all the images, cover line and masthead is not tightly together and crammed up.Similar to the title Kendrick Lamar’s name is in red too which also symbolism his importance and also it connotes that the spotlight is on him.The main theme of the xxl magazine is red, white and black. The name stands for extra extra large. Some rappers brag about being in this magazine because this magazine is well respected by the music industry and the audience. So by making it red it makes it stand out more and appealing. the language used in this magazine is very formal but they use a lot of adjectives like "super" "iconic" etc. XXL exaggerates its cover lines to make it seem better than what it actually is. there is no direct mode of address in the language it is just statements. this is an hip-hop genre magazine and in front of the magazine is a typical black African american male. This magazine supports the stereotype of a typical hip-hop/RnB magazine. Also in the front cover the main star Kendrick lamar is wearing a lot of jewelry and designer cloths , which also supports the typical stereotype look of a rapper. this is done because xxl is because mostly people who buy this magazine are African american. Similarly 78% of the audience of this magazine are male. so the way it is layed out it appeals to men. In a sense that kenrick lamar is wearing a hoody and very flashy cloths. A hoody normally represents a very shady character that is not too revealing to everyone about his past or what he is all about. this idealization normally creates a very aplha male like character in the audiences mind.

Task 3: College Magazine Analysis
In this collage magazine. There are 3 main colour schemes blue,
white and red. However the colour yellow is used to advertise a freebie and
exclusive things. This is done because
the yellow instantly stands out among the rest and will draw the reader into
buying the magazine. The placement of the freebie is just below the price,
which is £2.50. Even if buyers had
doubts about buying this magazine they would think twice as there is an ipad 2
up for grabs. The masthead of the magazine is called “student”. The masthead does
not specify what student and it is not aimed at a certain collage. So this
magazine would appeal to a board range of students. Also the main image
overlaps the masthead. This implies that she is very important and is one of
the very high achieving students. The main cover line is in red and placed in
the bottom right hand corner. It is in speech mark and states “the only way is
up”. The speech mark suggests that the cover line is quoting the student in the
front cover. She is very important to this particular magazine as she is in the
front cover. This will make the reader more interested in the main cover line. She
is also wearing a blue scarf, which is one the main colour of this magazine. She
does this to fit in with the masthead and the cover line, which are also blue. This
way the main image blends in with the surrounding and gives it a more natural
effect. Furthermore she makes direct eye contact towards the audience. in this
case it shows her confidence and makes her seem friendly.

Task 2 magazine analysis
The main image is of a music band called Kasabian performing in a church. This is very unusual as music is mainly has explicit content and other parts to it which is seen as a negative by the eyes of god. However by them having a main image of the band performing inside a church it suggests that the band is breaking stereotypes. This picture is also a reflection of the type of magazine it is. NME is a type of magazine that is not afraid to break stereotype and be unique. In the bottom left hand corner there is an advert which promotes NME magazine. It encourages people to subscribe to it. The text is in large yellow font it states that if you subscribe you will be able to save over £45. The use of the word “over” implies that it is more than just £45 you will be able to save. This makes it seem like it’s a good deal because of the amount of money you are able to save. The logo of the brand is displayed at the top right hand corner of the page. it is in red with white outlines. It is in an on top of a black background. The black background helps the logo to stand out. This helps to create a brand identify. Also the same colour red white and black are used throughout the whole content page. they kept it simple and used a maximum number of 3 colours as it seem professional and it won’t be crowned with all kinds of colours, which is very unpleasant to the eye. The content page is very crowded with context. The left hand column is filled with band index. This is a list of different bands that are featured in the magazine. The column is in the left hand corner so it is the first thing you see as people read from left to right. If you see a band you like or have interest it. It will draw you in. also the subheading is in bold and written in white with a black background. The context is written also in bullet points which make it easier for the audience to read and understand.

Task 2 magazine analysis
The name of the band “the vaccines” are at the top right
hand corner of the page. Their name Is in black capital letter, who are very
popular. the size of the text shows the importance of the band and its
importance. The whole dps is based on them. in the first page there is a clear
image of them all four leaning forward and giving direct mode of address
suggests that they are trying to draw attention. Without the blue shapes the
image of the band looks old and washed out because of the grey scale image. However
with the blue shapes they look very modern and look as if they are also trying
to appeal to a new generation of audience. this is because 93% of the NME readers have a computer and 96% have an access to the computer. there is also a pull quote, which is
the second largest text in the dpt. the fact that the text is in blue also helps
it to make it more appealing. in the bottom right hand corner the logo which is
very small is placed in the dps . The logo may be small but it still shows ownership
and originality of the article. The logo is well famous so when the audience
view it. it will make them feel as if they can trust article. the article is
set into Coolum’s which makes it easier to read . the background is textured
but it makes the text stand out well enough. there are only two columns and the main image stretches over the first image and 1/3 of the second page. the main stars of this magazine are pop stars, who are dedicated to make good music. but also their sense of fashion. the leather jackets, rolled up sleeves and putting your collar up are styles that are no longer trending. By the band doing these things connotes that they are trying to bring back a some of the old fashions trends and styles. Their dress code also reflects the type of music they put out too. The main target audience of this magazine are male that are aged between 17-30. 73% of the reader are male and 27% are female.

task 2 magazine analysis
The background of this vibe magazine is grey scale so it
draws the reader’s attention to Kayne west. The only colour used in this magazine is red heart, which is
being pulled by a mysterious hand. This connotes that kayne’s heart is being
stole by a love . This idea also reflects the single “heartless”, which he talks about a
women that mislead him and played with his feelings.
The
layout of the page makes it easier to read and understand. The information
gives is just a brief highlight of what is expected and this will give just a
little taste for it to get the readers engaged. Vibe magazines’
contents page has the signature ‘V’. This is a trademark of their company. People
will instantly recognise the v and will be able to tell that it is part of the
famous vibe magazine. The cloths that kayne west is wearing is considered fashionable
in today’s society. This connotes that vibe magazine is not only about music
but about fashion and art. They even have an own section in the content page
dedicated to fashion. kayne west has a very still and rigid facial expression, where he dose not show any emotion through his face only through his body language can you understand what is going on. he also makes direct eye contact with the audience almost as if he is directly looking at you. he dose this to show his inner emotion and thoughts through his body language and not his facial expression. the main star kayne west in this particular image is not portrayed as a stereotypical African Amercian rapper, who has a lot of jewelry and gold. instead he is dressed as a normal approachable ordinary man. Vibe magazine dose this because they want to appeal to their board audience. vibe magazines target audience is both male and female. 51% male and 49% female. so the main star kayne west would have to dress accordingly because this magazine appeals to both sexes. 62% of the consumer of this magazine are black/African American so this hip-hop genre would appeal to them as most rappers or hip-hop artist are African American. the word feature is in italic font. it is also bold and has a greater sign ">" with it. the font styles only reflects vibe ability to maintain and create styles.Because the font is diff rent and it is bold it will catch the eye quicker the any other text. The text is placed on the right hand corner and it is in blocks. vibe did not want to fill the content page with texts. they wanted to emphasis on the main image because it symbolism a lot of things and Kayne west is a very famous icon.
There are three colours used in this magazine cover. The
main Colours Used In this Magazine Front cover Is Black and Red. Red connotes
fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power,
determination as well as passion, desire, and love. The colour red represents
blood, fearless, strength and links with the genre of the magazine because the
magazine genre is about rap music and rap music has strong language. The colour
Black is a mysterious colour associated with fear and the unknown. It usually
has a negative connotation blacklist, black humour, black death. Black denotes
strength and authority; it is considered to be a very formal. Black gives out
an aggressive image and meaning. The Black and Red On the title contrast
together, so the black on the top becomes lighter and lighter to become the
colour red. Stereotypically men like the colours red and black because it
represents strength, power, and aggression, brave and fearless.
The large bold font is eye grabbing. The word ‘Vibe’ is
often used in slang and the Hip-Hop terminology instantly conveying the genres
covered in this magazine. The red and black colour theme reminds us of danger
and trouble again giving an insight into the contents of the magazine. The
connotations are that Eminem is dangerous.
Where it says ‘Comes Clean’, it gives an insight into what the feature
will be about drawing target audience in. The text matches the font of the
‘advisory’ warning on CD’s suggesting that the genre of the music this magazine
is promoting and the nature and personality as well as themes in the interview
with Eminem.
A lot of lighting is used to emphasis her flawless look. It also
makes her face stand out and creates sex appeal mostly towards the male
audience. Also she is wearing very tight cloths which, only adds to the idea of
her being sexy. Her costume is very unique and it makes her stands out from
the background. This connotes that she is an icon, which is stated in her 4
finger ring. The colour scheme of the background is light pink which
suggest that she is quite feminine and young. the main image also reinforces the stereotype that all female rappers are sexy ans stunning. it also reinforces the stereotypical view of that most rappers think very highly of their self. This also connotes that she
appeal to the younger female audience.there are pull quotes from an interview which will catch the
audience eyes first and draw them into reading the full article.the pull quote says "i really toned down the sexy stuff" but in the main image she is wearing tight cloths so these to contradict each other making the article more and more interesting. The use of the big “W” at the front of the article indicates
the start of the text. The text is in a small font. The interview is in a
simple question and answer based format. The questions are bold and numbered this
makes it easier for the reader to understand. Some of the text is placed around the main image. this is done to make the text and the main image seem that it is together in one. Her name is the biggest text there and it is in a darker shade of pink. Her right hand is across the text and it overlaps it. all the other text is around her but her name is covered by her right hand. this connotes that the audience already should know of her but the name Nickie minaj is a trademark and by being there it only makes the dps more reliable. The whole dps is dedicated to only her, which shows her
influence and her importance even though some may think of her as a pretty feminist
girl. She is one of the biggest icon in the music industry. the main audience this appeals to are young female adults and the secondary audience are adult female and male. this is because the genre of music, which is RnB applies to younger audience.
